This week at Meeples’ Corner

Here is a quick summary of what is happening game-wise at Meeples’ Corner this week:

We have already received five new games so far. In stock are:

And we are awaiting two more new releases:

There also have been a lot of restocks. Back in stock are:

Asmodee, Days of Wonder and FFG at the UK Games Expo

We have talked to Esdevium (part of the Asmodee group) about what will they will bring to the UK Games Expo this year.

The following games/expansions have been confirmed as available for demos (not sure about sales, hopefully we will know more about this before the show):

  • Star Wars Rebellion: Rise of the Empire Expansion
  • Diceforge
  • Oh Captain!
  • Ticket to Ride Germany
  • Quadropolis: Public Services
  • Unfair (presented by Esdevium as distributor)
  • Century: Spice Road (presented by Esdevium as distributor)

These are the newest titles from a long list of games. It definitely looks like Asmodee/FFG/Days of Wonder will have a big presence at the Expo this year.

April Top 5

As always at the beginning of the month, we are looking back to the last month to see what the bestsellers have been.

Here are the Top 5 of April (Sales):

1) Capital
2) Clank! (Restock)
3) Yamatai
4) Clank! Sunken Treasures
5) Bärenpark

Capital was a surprise in April and despite an ugly graphic design the gameplay was a big success with our customers and we received a lot of great feedback. Yamatai is a success like all the big box releases from Days of Wonder, but this one is especially interesting for fans of Five Tribes. Clank! Sunken Treasures is the first expansion for Clank and after the success of the base game a Top 5 spot for the expansion was to be expected. Rounding up the Top 5 is Barenpark, the newest game of Cacao designer Phil Walker-Harding.

And the Top 5 Pre-Orders:

1) Caverna – Cave vs. Cave
2) Charterstone
3) Terraforming Mars: Hellas & Elysium
4) Gloomhaven (Reprint)
5) In the Year of the Dragon: 10th Anniversary

The two player version of Caverna took the top spot in the pre-order Top 5 easily. Charterstone and Terraforming Mars: Hellas & Elysium kept their Top 5 spots from last month and are still going strong. After the disappointment with the cancelled retail release of Gloomhaven 1st edition a lot of customers jumped on the chance to secure a copy of the reprint. And the Anniversary edition of In the Year of the Dragon is a game quite a few of our customers have been waiting for.

Devon Dice Reviews

Devon Dice, our partner podcast, has posted three new reviews on their website:

Frogriders (Full review)

I am really glad I have given Frogriders a chance, it’s another great game from the designer of Flamme Rouge, Asger Harding Granerud. A really fun tactical family game with a nice theme to fit the mechanics and it has given me some real gaming highlights, definitely a stayer in my collection.

Multiuniversum (Full review)

Ultimately, it’s lightness may be its undoing for some gamers, but for me it is a delightful option for those times when you need something short, but fulfilling at the start or end of a game night. For less than £10 you really can’t go wrong.

Yamatai (Full review)

This is a game which will sit happily alongside Five Tribes for me. It feels linked in some way, playing totally differently yet giving the same kind of vibe. If you were not a fan of Five Tribes you may not dig Yamatai either, for those same reasons mentioned above, but if you’re a fan of Five Tribes then you will almost certainly enjoy Yamatai, for different yet similar reasons.

Week 15 releases

This week’s new releases are online and confirmed.

Today we already have received:

Tomorrow is the long awaited release of Yamatai and on Thursday we can start selling Blood on the Altar, the newest Mythos Pack for the Arkham Horror LCG.

And to help get a quick overview of all the new games of this week, we have put together a playlist on Youtube with reviews of the five games:

Delays for Yamatai and Days of Ire

We talked to our supplier today about the release dates for Yamatai and Days of Ire. Unfortunately both games will be delayed (in the case of Days of Ire again):

  • Yamatai is 3-4 weeks away from a UK release, so we are looking at early to mid-April for this one.
  • Days of Ire is even worse: both suppliers, that are listing the game for pre-order don’t have an actual delivery date. This is going on for weeks now, so I don’t know what exactly is happening here.

New game announcements

A few new games have been announced last week:

  • Asmodee has announced Dice Forge for the Q2 of 2017. Dice Forge is a “dice crafting” game designed by Régis Bonnessée (Lords of Xidit, Seasons).
  • Days of Wonder is releasing an European edition of Ticket to Ride: First Journey in March/April. The game is meant to introduce younger players (age 6+) to the Ticket to Ride series.
  • Flatline is a new game from Renegade Game Studios (Spring 2017) in the Fuse universe. Players use their dice and combine them with other players to treat arriving patients in ER.
  • And Pegasus has announced a whole batch of new card games: Santo Domingo, 4 Seasons and Sheep & Thief are all expected to arrive in March/April.

As always we will add these games to our website for pre-orders as soon as we have received reliable information regarding the UK/European release date and the price.

Yamatai from Days of Wonder in March

Days of Wonder has announced Yamatai, a new game designed by Marc Paquien and Bruno Cathala:

In Yamataï, players compete to earn prestige points using different strategies. Clear the different islands of the archipelago to recruit powerful specialists that will assist you, or use the resources carried by the boats that navigate between them to construct buildings on the islands! And, if you’re skilled enough, try creating prestigious buildings such as high temples or rare torii.

The game will get released at the end of March in Europe and is now available to pre-order.

Available to pre-order: Ticket to Ride Rails & Sails

Days of Wonder has announced Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails. The is available to pre-order now and will be released on the 31/08/16.

Ticket to Ride Rails & Sails is the new installment in this best-selling train adventure series. Players collect cards of various types (trains and ships) that enable them to claim railway and sea routes on a nicely illustrated double-sided board, featuring the world map on one side and the great lakes of North America on the other. Elegantly simple and fast to learn, it takes the Ticket to Ride series to the next level! Veteran railroaders as well as family and friends will be delighted to set sail to the new horizons of Ticket to Ride…
