Something I’ve completely missed in the run-up to Christmas: Pegasus has signed a worldwide licence for four new games based on the fantasy classic Talisman:
2018 will be a special year for Games Workshop’s Talisman adventure board game. The mother of all fantasy board games will celebrate its 35th anniversary and the world of Talisman will be expanded by new games. Pegasus Spiele will develop four games with worldwide rights under a license with Games Workshop. The first game will be released in 2018.
Starting in 2018, adventures in the fantastic world of Talisman can be experienced in four new games. The first game – a children’s game by Lukas Zach and Michael Palm (The Dwarves board game) – will be released in the second half of 2018. An expandable card game, a role-playing game and a dice game will follow. The release dates for these games will be announced at a later time.
Pegasus is also stocking the 4th Edition of Talisman from Games Workshop, so from next week on we will have the base game and five expansions back in stock.
When Games Workshop ended the agreement with FFG everybody was expecting GW to bring the board game line back under their own roof to profit from the growing popularity of the board game market.
I guess this was the wrong idea because yesterday Wizkids announced a new deal with GW:
WizKids, the leader in high-quality pre-painted miniatures and established board games, today revealed a multi-year partnership with acclaimed fantasy miniatures company, Games Workshop. The new partnership will extend the Warhammer 40,000 universe IP across multiple categories, including, Dice Building Games™, board games and more!
“We’re thrilled to be working with Games Workshop and the Warhammer 40,000 license,” said Justin Ziran, president of WizKids. “This beloved franchise is known the world over and our partnership will allow us to create amazing products and experiences for fans everywhere.”
The multi-year deal will span numerous categories and include the most iconic Warhammer 40,000 characters and more. WizKids will create two new board games, along with dice games based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, with additional plans to republish classic board games Fury of Dracula and Relic.
Weirdly the deal only mentions Warhammer 40k, not sure what will happen with Warhammer Fantasy. Maybe they will do a second deal with someone else…
