Description

At the heart of the Mediterranean, rival cities seek wealth and glory in Akropolis from Gigamic and designed by Jules Messaud.

The most talented architects in ancient Greece stand ready to achieve this goal. Build housing, temples, markets, gardens and barracks, so you can grow your city and ensure it triumphs over the others. Raise its prestige with harmonious planning that conforms to specific rules, and enhance it by building plazas.

Stone is an essential resource, so make sure you do not neglect it. You’ll need enough quarries so you can build higher up, making your city stretch towards the sky.

This is a well thought out game, there are a large number of tiles each of 3 hexes with one of 6 different terrains on each hex OR a number of coloured stars. On a turn pick a tile from the row and place adjacent or on top of tiles you already have. The various colours score for different aspects (e.g. Blue all grouped adjacent, red only if on perimeter of build e.t.c.) and scoring is done at the end when all tiles have been placed. A colour scores for hex heights times stars (e.g. 3 red hexes on levels 3, 2 & 2 with 4 red stars scores (3+2+2)x4=28 points). Overbuilding quarries gets you stones which are used to pay for tiles further up the tile row. The rules are that easy whilst the play is interesting with decision making on when to over-pay for tiles, where to build higher and which of the colours to concentrate on (you cannot do them all). A good solid gateway game with plenty of replay value about the same level as the first Azul.
