Description

Formidable adversaries are arrayed against you. Your people stand ready. History beckons.

In your hands lies the destiny of one of history’s great civilizations. Under constant threat of attack, you must conquer new lands, oversee dramatic scientific and cultural advances, and lead your people into the era of empire. Expand too rapidly, and unrest will bring your civilization to its knees; build up too slowly, however, and you might find yourself a mere footnote of history. As one of eight radically asymmetric civilizations, you will compete to become the most dominant empire the world has ever seen.

The Imperium Legends board game is a standalone game that contains the Arthurian, Atlantian, Egyptian, Mauryan, Minoan, Olmec, Qin, and Utopian civilizations and an individual solo opponent behaving as each nation. It is also fully compatible with Imperium: Classics for players wanting to expand their pool of civilizations even further.

More details about both Imperium games are available on Dicebreaker.

This is the most recent case of a good game hiding behind a bad rulebook. The game itself is not complex, your civilisation is your deck, and you take actions to develop it. There is some interaction, but not a great deal, and the main game is a race for victory points as you try to make the most of the card market, use your civ’s unique advantages, and perhaps throw a spanner in your opponents’ works. If you use the resources on BGG and YouTube to learn the game, you will have a much easier time of it, and the rulebook is a good reference document. The game is a touch fiddly, but fun. Legends is the more difficult box to learn as the civs are more unusual, but only a little.
